Deeper Reflection
By God’s calling and empowering, God’s people are the light of the world. As God’s light, we are to shine for all to see. There are two expressions of being this light. One is who we are. This is our identity and inner character that reflect who our Master is. The other is what we do. This is the practical outworking of our faith through the good works we do in obedience to our Master.Our light is lit or switched on the moment we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour. A light source benefits others by showing the way in a dark environment, and by providing warmth and comfort. Just as the shining of light requires energy, doing good works involves the giving of oneself to bless others. We will need God’s enabling and empowering. The purpose of this light is to bear witness to God’s transforming power working in and through us. The intensity of our light is determined by both the careful cultivation of Christ-likeness in our character and the consistent practice of good works in our daily lives. Incandescent service is service that is extremely bright and good.The result is that when others see our light, they would say to themselves or one another, “He really stands out in a positive way” or “There is something distinctive and attractive about her life”. They will wonder what motivates us. Of course, when they talk to us, they will soon find out that we are motivated by a love for God and a desire for people to give glory to our heavenly Father.
