“Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin”– Matthew 6:28
The foyer and stairs were decked out in lilies at the Women4Women event, “Anchored in Faith”. As the ladies made their way up to the sanctuary, the committee sought to bless each of them with the blessing of faith that is not anxious when they “consider the lilies”.
However, many would consider flowers a waste of money because they do wither and are temporal. Do we really need lilies to bless the ladies with this verse? Is it not an extravagance?
“A woman came with an alabaster flask of ointment of pure nard, very costly, and she broke the flask and poured it over his head. There were some who said to themselves indignantly, ‘Why was the ointment wasted like that? For this ointment could have been sold for more than three hundred denarii and given to the poor.’ And they scolded her.” – Mark 14:3-5
Decorations are part of the committee’s service to the ladies and an offering to the Lord. The committee felt the burden to “do a beautiful thing” for Jesus and the ladies. Jesus was not looking at the flowers or how beautiful the arrangements were. He was looking at the servant-heart of the committee who arranged them unto Him.
The committee also felt the prompting to invite ladies who have been blessed by the lilies to consider taking them home for a small blessing towards Vision 2028. The sale of the lilies reflected the giving hearts of the ladies that desire to take part in building the church.
We give all thanks and honour back to Him who is worthy of all praises!
