Introduction
What comes to mind when you think of “alignment”?
Two questions to reflect on as we think about how alignment is relevant to us, the Church:
A. WHAT DOES ALIGNMENT MEAN FOR US? (vv.1-4)
1. Being “in full accord” is sympsuchoi in the Greek — literally “souls together” (v.2)
2. Alignment is not about coercion or forcing conformity through power, but joining our souls together through love and humility
3. But selfish ambition and conceit (kenodoxia, empty glory) easily creep into our hearts
4. Paul exhorts us — “in humility count others more significant than yourselves”. Humility is not about belittling ourselves, but being ourselves and using what God has given us to bless others!
B. WHAT MOTIVATES OUR ALIGNMENT? (vv.5-11)
1. As God’s family, alignment is possible, we can be of one mind, when we take on the mind of Christ!
2. Unlike us (we who are full of empty glory), Jesus chose to empty Himself of His glory!
3. The incarnation is a mind-blowing and scandalous mystery!
4. So let’s live “all-in” for the King who went “all-in” for us!
Conclusion
Imagine the possibilities — what would the Church look like if we were truly aligned with each other and with the Lord?
