Introduction
In Leviticus, the people of Israel were already taken out of Egypt. That turned out to be the easy part. Taking Egypt out of them was the tougher thing. Turning them into a Kingdom of Priests and a Holy Nation — “holification”, if you like — would prove even more challenging. There was both a price and privilege to that.
In Leviticus 21, we see that embodied in the Priesthood. Being set apart unto their priestly calling involved the same price and privilege. We examine:
A. THE PRICE OF PRIESTHOOD
B. THE PRIVILEGE OF PRIESTHOOD
What are the implications of all this for us?
Like the people of Israel, we undergo a similar process of “holification”. We who are in Christ have been taken out of our past and are reconciled to God. But removing the past from within us and emplacing Christ as Lord in our lives is the bigger thing.
This calls for us, like the priests in Leviticus 21, to pay the price and walk in our privilege. Like all aspects of discipleship, this is not about perfection, but about progression. What do we need to do today to make progress?
