Introduction
Good Friday commemorates the death of Jesus. But why is it “Good?”
And what does it mean for your life and my life?
Point 1: PAINFUL DEATH
Jesus’ death was no ordinary death. It was an excruciating one. Even the depiction of Jesus’ final hours in Mel Gibson’s “Passion of the Christ” does not reflect His full sufferings.
Point 2: POWERFUL DEATH
Yet Jesus’ did not die with a whimper. God sent a loud and clear message with His death with 2 supernatural miracles, so that humanity will sit up and pay attention!
Point 3: PURPOSEFUL DEATH
His death was not pointless. Immediately after He died, notice the glorious consequences of:
a. The Path of Reconciliation
b. The Promise of Resurrection
Conclusion
Jesus’ death, though painful, was a powerful and purposeful one. This forms the central message of the Bible. And this message is the power of God unto salvation to everyone who believes. And it is also the message that powers the Christian and the Church forward.
